WISH y HOPE

Se usa cuando hay una posibilidad de que algo ocurra, y muestra nuestras intenciones cara al futuro

The interview went quite well, so I hope I get the job  = La entrevista fue bastante bien, así que espero que consiga el trabajo

I hope it´s a nice day on Sunday to go for a bike ride  = Espero que haga un día bueno para hacer un paseo en bici

We hope you get better soon  = Esperamos que te mejores pronto

I hope she likes the present I bought her  = Espero que le guste el regalo que le compré

I hope it doesn´t rain this weekend  = Espero que no llueva este fin de semana

I hope to see you next month  = Espero verte el mes que viene

We´re really hoping that you could come to the party  = Realmente esperamos que podías venir a la fiesta

I was hoping you´d like to come with me to Scotland  = Esperaba que te gustaría venir conmigo a Escocia

Are you coming with us? I hope so  = Vas a venir con nosotros? Espero que si

He hoped he would be getting a promotion, but in the end he didn´t get it  = El esperaba conseguir un ascenso, pero al final no lo consiguió

Let´s hope we are lucky  = Esperamos que tengamos suerte

Expresiones con "HOPE"

Hope all goes well  = Espero que todo salga bien

Don´t get your hopes up  = No te hagas muchas ilusiones

Cross my heart and hope to die  = Lo juro

Let´s hope for the best  = Que sea lo que Dios quiera

Do you want to go out with me? Not a hope!  = Quieres salir conmigo? Ni lo sueñes!

"HOPE" también se usa como "sustantivo" y significa "ESPERANZA"

We have high hopes that he will be fine after the operation  = Tenemos muchas esperanzas que estará bien después de la operación

They have put all their hope in him = Han puesto toda su esperanza en el

We must not give up hope = No debemos perder la esperanza

I had set my hopes in buying that car  = Me había hecho ilusiones de comprar ese coche

Tom Waits sings " I hope I don´t fall in love with you"  = Espero que no me enamore de ti

"WISH"  = "OJALA": Se usa "WISH" cuando quieres que algo ocurra, aunque sabes que puede ser algo  improbable" y en situaciones imaginadas y no reales.

"WISH" también expresa cierta lamentación por tu actual situación

Se suele usar "WISH"+ verbo en pasado

I wish I were rich and travel around the world  = Ojala fuera rico y viajar por el mundo

I wish I could travel all over the world for one year  = Ojala pudiera viajar por todo el mundo durante un año

I wish you were here  = Ojala estuvieras aquí

I wish I spoke English better so to get a better job  = Ojala hablara inglés mejor para conseguir un trabajo mejor

I wish I had more free time to do what I like  = Ojala tuviera mas tiempo libre para hacer lo que me gusta

I wish I hadn´t spent so much money  = Ojala no me hubiera gastado tantodinero

I wish he took me out for dinner more often  = Ojala me llevara a cenar mas a menudo

I wish there were more bicycle lanes in big cities  = Ojala hubiera mas carriles de bici en ciudades grandes

We wish we could stay longer  = Ojala pudiéramos quedarnos mas tiempo

I wish he loved me more!  = Ojala me quisiera mas

"WISH" también significa: DESEO

Make a wish before blowing out the candles  = Pide un deseo antes de apagar las velas

I wish you the best  = Te deseo lo mejor

Best wishes  = Mis mejores deseos

Wish me luck!  = Deséame suerte!

My wish came true  = Mi deseo se hizo realidad

I wish to be left alone  = Deseo que me dejéis tranquilo

We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year  = Te deseamos Feliz Navidad y Año Nuevo

También se podría usar "IF ONLY" = "Si solo / solamente", en lugar de usar "WISH"

Pero claro "Si solamente"suena algo raro en español.....entonces mejor usar "Ojala"

If only I had more free time I could ride my bike more often  = Si solo/ solamente (Ojala) tuviera mas tiempo libre, pudiera y en bici mas a menudo

If only my boss were nicer, then everyone would be happier  = Si solamente mi jefe fuera mas amable, entonces todos estaríamos mas contentos

If only there were more jobs, then the economy would be better  = Si solamente hubiera mas trabajo, entonces la economía estaría mejor

If only I had enough money to buy a house in a small village = Si solamente (Ojala) tuviera bastante dinero para comprar una casa en un pequeño pueblo

If only I could sell my paintings and earn a living  = Si solamente pudiera vender mis cuadros y ganarme la vida

The Third Conditional

Nosotros hacemos el tercer condicional usando el pasado perfecto después de ' if ' y entonces ' tendría ' y el participio pasado en la segunda parte de la oración:

if + past perfect, ...would + have + past participle

Al hablar del pasado. Se utiliza para describir una situación que no sucedió, e imaginar el resultado de esta situación.

If she had studied, she would have passed the exam (but, really we know she didn't study and so she didn't pass)

Si hubiera estudiado, habría pasado el examen (pero, realmente sabemos que no estudió y por lo que no pasó)

If I hadn't eaten so much, I wouldn't have felt sick (but I did eat a lot, and so I did feel sick).

Si no hubiera comido tanto, no me habría sentido mal (pero comí mucho, así que me sentí enfermo).

If we had taken a taxi, we wouldn't have missed the plane

Si hubiéramos tomado un taxi, no hubiéramos perdido el avión.

She wouldn't have been tired if she had gone to bed earlier

Ella no habría estado cansada si se hubiera ido a la cama antes

She would have become a teacher if she had gone to university

Se habría convertido en maestra si hubiera ido a la Universidad

He would have been on time for the interview if he had left the house at nine

Él habría sido a tiempo para la entrevista si había salido de la casa a las nueve
